Abstract

Objective: Medicinal plants are of great value and importance in ensuring the health of society in terms of treatment and prevention of diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze the indigenous knowledge of medicinal use of various organs and products of pomegranate tree in Ardestan city.
Methods: The research method included face-to-face interviews with local experts and knowledgeable in the field of local medicinal, food and industrial uses of index plants cultivated in the first stage and then preparing a questionnaire from this local information. Cochran's formula was used to obtain the sample size and the sample size was estimated to be 375 people. The validity of the research instrument was confirmed by a survey of professors and experts and the reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha of 0.894. The software used in this study also used inferential statistics of t-test and Friedman test to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that pomegranate paste is the most commonly used product and pomegranate seed is the most usable part of pomegranate. Frequency of consumption variables of different parts of pomegranate tree from the perspective of users using the amount of use of different parts of pomegranate and its products, including pomegranate paste (3.27), pomegranate juice (2.80), Pomegranate vinegar (2.45), pomegranate seeds (2.30), pomegranate tree bark (1.40), pomegranate kernel (1.37), pomegranate fruit peel (1.36), The roots were pomegranate tree (1.33) and pomegranate flower (1.31).
Conclusion: People in different neighborhoods of Ardestan have little local knowledge of agricultural products, especially pomegranate, or do not believe in it. Perhaps, the less experience of the new generation and their less knowledge in the use of medicinal plants is a reason for this, which indicates that the indigenous knowledge related to the use of medicinal and edible plants in the local communities of Ardestan is low.
