Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to compile and synthesize ethnobotanical information and identify the most frequently used medicinal plant species among indigenous communities in Isfahan Province
Methods: Ethnobotanical information on medicinal plants from different parts of Isfahan Province was collected through a documentary review of available published studies. Based on the compiled data, the most frequently reported plant species, commonly used plant parts, prevalent preparation and application methods, and target health conditions were identified and examined.
Results: An analysis of ethnobotanical data on 40 widely used medicinal plant species showed that the largest number of the species examined belonged to the Apiaceae family. Leaves were the most frequently used plant part, while decoction, drying, and infusion were among the most common preparation and application methods. Gastrointestinal disorders, the common cold, and respiratory conditions were among the main health conditions for which these plants were reportedly used.
Conclusion: Compiling and analyzing data from ethnobotanical studies and developing a database of widely used medicinal plant species in Isfahan Province can provide a useful basis for designing future research programs, assessing the economic potential of medicinal plants, and developing employment initiatives tailored to regional conditions.
